Abstract

Many of the refraction statics methods in current use make simplifying assumptions about the weathered layer, e.g. single layer, constant velocity, which may introduce medium and long wavelength static components into the data. Such components will not usually degrade stack response but will cause structural errors and may introduce misties into the data. Two refraction statics methods incorporating more complex weathering situations are presented. Implicit in the use of refraction statics is the availability of sufficiently reliable first breaks from a common refractor.
