Abstract

The subgenera Leptotarsus s.str. and Pseudoleptotarsus Alexander, 1920, of the genus Leptotarsus Guérin, 1838, are revised. Semnotes Westwood, 1878, is synoonymized with the subgenus Leptotarsus. Fourteen species and two subspecies are included in that subgenus. L. tricinctus Walker is resurrected from the synonymy and L. caesarea Alexander is regarded as a synonym of it. L. nigrithorax (Macquart) and L. cinereipleura Alexander are synonymized with L. clavatus (Macquart). Six new species are described in the subgenus Leptotarsus: L. ardrossaniensis, L. coolgardiensis, L. esperanceiensis, L. kalamundaensis, L. fletcherensis and L. fraucai. In the subgenus Pseudoleptotarsus only two species are known, including L. nigrinus, sp. nov.
