Abstract

Australian Rhiniinae are revised. Keys are given to genera and species, with illustrations of characters of diagnostic and systematic importance, and all taxa are fully described. Where known, reference is made to their biology. The four genera included (Chlororhinia, Metallea, Rhinia and Stomorhina) contain 14 species and one species-complex. Two further genera (Idiella, Isomyia) are included in the generic key, since they will probably be found in Australia. Four new species are described: Metallea albifacies, Metallea nigripilosa, Stomorhina norrisi and Stomorhina pollinosa. Two species are recorded for the first time from Australia (Chlororhinia fuscohirta and Rhinia apicalis). One name is raised from synonymy: Metallea insularis Malloch (= incisuralis of authors). Three lectotypes are designated.
