Abstract
Most pastoral land in Australia is leased under a form of perpetual or term lease. Covenants are attached to these leases in an attempt to achieve various social, economic and environmental objectives. Land tenure options necessary to achieve these objectives are identified and contrasted with the current tenure systems. From an administrative and management viewpoint each tenure system has a number of strengths and deficiencies. The necessary characteristics of a tenure system which retains the strengths and overcomes the identified deficiencies are outlined.https://doi.org/10.1071/RJ9850043
