Charles Patton works as a Research Chemist at the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Quality Laboratory in Denver, Colorado. His research interests include continuous flow analysis, colorimetric and enzymatic methods of nutrient analysis, laboratory automation, and autonomous water quality monitoring. Patton graduated from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio in 1970 and earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Analytical Chemistry at Michigan State University. Before joining the USGS in 1988, Patton designed and supervised development of the RFA™ continuous-flow analyzer product line at the Alpkem Corporation in Clackamas, Oregon, and worked as a seagoing chemical technician at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NewYork and at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.
