Pittosporum, part of the east Gondwanan family Pittosporaceae, is an attractive genus of horticulturally important trees and shrubs found in mainly temperate and tropical areas in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, but not naturally in the Americas. The genus is undergoing a worldwide revision and this report details a reappraisal of Pittosporum in Malesia and Papuasia. From just 13 species accepted in these regions in the 1950s, 52 species are now recognised, with many species reinstated from synonymy, and four new species are described.
