HRAS is a bi-annual journal that publishes two kinds of unsolicited manuscripts — Historical Articles and Historical Documents — on the history of science in Australia and the southwest Pacific. The journal also publishes Reviews, Memoirs of deceased Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science, Book Reviews, and an Annual Bibliography of the history of science in Australia and the southwest Pacific. The types of manuscripts are described in detailed in the Scope.
Acceptance of manuscripts is the responsibility of the Editors in consultation with the Editorial Board. All Historical Articles, Historical Documents, Reviews and Memoirs are subject to a formal process of peer review and are considered on the understanding that they are the result of original research that has not, and will not, appear elsewhere in substantially the same form.
When preparing a manuscript for publication, authors should follow as closely as possible the journal style and layout, which can be inspected in a sample issue online. Detailed guidelines are set out in the Author Instructions.
There are no page charges for HRAS.
The journal is published online and a limited number of hard copies are available from the publisher at a cost of $AU50 (plus GST) each provided the order is placed before online publication (1 June and 1 December).
Formal reprints are not provided, but CSIRO Publishing supplies the corresponding author with a free PDF of the published article. Authors may create links to their articles from their personal webpages. Electronic versions of all articles are available from our website by subscription or sale of individual articles.
Note: the use of the PDF is also covered in the journal’s Copyright/Licence to Publish.
In summary you may:
• Send copies to individual colleagues for non-commercial purposes
• Print out and distribute copies to colleagues attending any conference presentation you make
• Include the PDF in a course pack, subject to the usual copyright licensing agency arrangements.
However, you may not include the PDF on any website or on any server, including an institutional repository. You may place a pre-publication version of your work on your personal website or in your institutional repository provided that you include a link to the definitive version on the journal’s website. Please contact the Permissions Manager if you wish to use the PDF for any purpose other than those listed above.
The journal is indexed/abstracted in a variety of databases.
