Prize Announcement

CSIRO Publishing is very pleased to sponsor the following prizes that were awarded at the ARS Broome Conference, 2023. CSIRO Publishing would like to extend their congratulations to the recipients of the awards and wish them all the best in the future research. Special thanks is also extended to the judges involved in the selection process, Alec Holm (former President of the ARS), Noelene Duckett (Editor, Range Management Newsletter) and Andrew Craig (formerly with DPIRD in the Kimberley).

The associated prizes and their winners are listed below;

Best 15 minute presentation – Andrea Tschirner (South Australian Arid Lands Landscape Board)  ‘Digging Deep to better manage pastoral country – understanding soils in arid landscapes’

Best Early Career presentation – Lucy Gardner and her co-authors, Phelps, D., Roci, T., Huang, T., Jarihani, B., Nelson, P. and Penton, G.(James Cook University) ‘Rapid Assessment of Mitchell Grass on Southern Gulf Rangelands: using drone imagery and machine learning’ 

Best 5 minute presentation – Geoff Moore (Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, WA) ‘Risk of agricultural plants becoming environmental weeds in the northern rangelands’

Best poster – Vanessa Anderson and Louise Turner (Western Landcare NSW) ‘Building Rangeland Careers’
