The reaction of pyridine with iron(II) acetylacetonate in benzene solutions

Abstract

The titration of monomeric Fe acac₂ in dilute benzene solutions has been shown to result in the formation of [Fe acac₂]₂py, [Fe acac₂ py]₂, and Fe acac₂ py₂ species with stability constants of > 10⁴, 1.8 ± 1 x 10², and 25 ± 10 respectively. Only Fe acac₂ py₂ was isolated in the solid state. These species are compared to the similar Co^II and Ki^II systems and structural possibilities are discussed.
