Short Communication: Mannich Aminomethylation of a b-Amino Acid Complex by Formaldehyde and Ammonia: Crystal Structure of [(4,6,8-Triazaundecanedioato)-6N,N´-methano-(b-(alaninato)]-cobalt(III) Pentahydrate

Abstract

A new aza-capped tripodal complex, [(4,6,8-triazaundecanedioato)-6N,N´-methano-(β−alaninato)-cobalt(III) (abbreviated as Co^III[baza]), results from an in situ reaction of cobalt(II) sulfate, β-alanine, formaldehyde, and ammonia. Its crystal structure analysis is presented together with a brief discussion of its formation as arising from a Mannich aminomethylation-cum-capping reaction.
