Mixed alkyl-perfluoroalkyl derivatives of Group VB elements

Abstract

Trifluoroiodomethane reacts with triethyl-phosphine, -arsine, and -stibine forming derivatives of the type (C₂H₅)₂MCF₃ together with (C₂H₅)₄MI, while pentafluoroiodoethane reacts with trimethyl-phosphine, -arsine, and -stibine giving derivatives of the form (CH₃)₂MC₂F₅ together with (CH₃)₄MI. The infrared spectra of the compounds are presented and the mechanism of the reaction discussed.
