Interaction of dicyandiamides with thioureas : formation of Hexahydro-4,6-diimino-1-aryl-1,3,5-triazine-2-thiones and amidinothioureas

Abstract

Dicyandiamide and aryldicyandiamides react with thiourea and N- arylthioureas in the presence of concentrated hydrochloric acid to yield hexahydro-4,6-diimino-1-aryl-1,3,5-triazine-2-thiones and amidino/arylamidinothioureas. Condensation of amidinothiourea with arylcyanamides is also found to produce the same 1,3,5-triazine derivatives. The mechanism of formation of these products is briefly discussed.
