Depsidone synthesis. IX. Nornotatic acid and notatic acid

Abstract

New syntheses of the lichen depsidone 8-hydroxy-3-methoxy-1,4,6- trimethyl-11-oxo-11H-dibenzo-[b,e][1,4]dioxepin-7-carboxylic acid (notatic acid) (1) are described. The synthesis of 3,8-dihydroxy- 1,4,6-trimethyl-11-oxo-11H-dibenzo[b,e][1,4]dioxepin-7carboxylc acid (2) is described. It was identical with the depsidone nornotatic acid isolated from the lichen Parmelia weberi Hale.
