Abstract

Methylation of 6-methylpterin in the presence of sodium hydroxide gave a c. 2 : 1 mixture of 3,6- and 1,6-dimethylpterin, In the absence of alkali, 6-methylpterin gave a c. 11 : 1 mixture of 6,8- and 1,6- dimethylpterin.
