Experiments Directed Towards the Synthesis of Anthracyclinones. XII. Preparation of a Substituted Isobenzofuran From an Anthradifuran

Abstract

The anthradifuran (4) has been converted into the substituted isobenzofuran (29), a potential intermediate for the synthesis of anthracyclinones from anthraquinones . The sequence involves the intermediates (19), (24) and (34). Selective openings of one of the furan rings of the anthradifuran (4) have been investigated.
