Abstract

The purpose of this contribution is to review the species of the shark genus Carcharhinus found along the coast of Argentina. New southern limits for the distribution of the genus are given for the western South Atlantic. The presence of Carcharhinus leucas (Valenciennes, 1839) is recorded for the first time on the Province of Buenos Aires coast. New evidence is given which confirms the presence of Carcharhinus brachyurus(GÜnther, 1870) in the area. Carcharhinus plumbeus (Nardo, 1827) is known from only a single Argentine record. Carcharhinus longimanus (Poey, 1861) has been recorded from oceanic waters offshore of Argentina, but has not been taken from continental shelf waters.
