Abstract
The reaction of cyanohydrins with aldehydes under the influence of bases or HCl is described. It is shown that cyanohydrins give substituted oxazoles on standing or in the presence of a base. A mechanism is proposed for the formation of imidazoles in the presence of hydrogen chloride.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9671929
