Chromium(III) complexes in dipolar aprotic solvents. VII. Competitive anation studies with [Cr(Me₂SO)₆]³⁺ in dimethyl sulphoxide

P.The competitive anation reactions:

[Cr(Me₂SO)₆]³⁺ + X^- + Cl^- [CrCl(Me₂SO)₅]²⁺ + Me₂SO

CrX(Me₂SO)₅]²⁺ + Me₂SO

[CrX(Me2S0)5]2*+ Me2S0 where X^- is N₃^- or SCN^- have been studied in Me₂SO at one temperature as a function of the concentrations of X^- and Cl^-. The results are compatible with a dissociative interchange reaction of ion aggregates, and require that ion triplets as well as ion pairs contribute to product formation. The results are consistent with our previous results on the anation of Cr(Me₂SO)₆³⁺ separately by SCN^-, N₃^- and Cl^-.
