Dr Christopher S. Griffith is a Senior Process Chemist at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) Minerals business unit. He is currently involved with numerous commercial research projects for the uranium, rare-earth industries and industries in which naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) are present. Dr Griffith has 10 years of experience working in the research and development of hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical separation technologies, applicable to current and advanced nuclear fuel cycles. He completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Western Australia in 2000 studying the synthesis and reactivity of Group 8 ethyne-1,2-diyl complexes with George Koutsantonis. He has over 35 peer reviewed publications, over 50 commercial-in-confidence technical reports, and over 20 international conference publications.



George A. Koutsantonis is a synthetic chemist with an interest in functional materials that contain metals. He is a graduate of the University of Adelaide and began his scientific life studying the coordination properties and reactions of alkynes and often returns to this fascinating area. He was appointed to the staff at the University of Western Australia in 1995 where he remains. The work in this detailed review was recognised by the joint RACI Organometallic award in 2004. He is indebted to his co-author for all his efforts in expanding the chemistry of ethyndiyl complexes.
