Dr Katie L. Poetz received her B.Sc. in chemistry from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, in 2010 and her Ph.D. in chemistry at Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York, in 2015. Her research interests are in the general areas of biomaterials, including hydrogels, nanoparticles, colloids, degradable polymers, and peptides/polypeptides. She has published several peer-reviewed papers and attended and presented at a number of international conferences. She was awarded an NSF-EAPSI Fellowship to conduct research at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Melbourne, Australia, working with Professor Sebastien Perrier. After successfully defending her Ph.D., she began work at the research laboratories of Bausch and Lomb, Rochester, New York.

Professor Devon A. Shipp completed a B.Sc. (Hons) in chemistry (1993), and then a Ph.D. (1998) at the University of Melbourne (Australia) working with Professor David H. Solomon, Dr Graeme Moad, and Dr Trevor A. Smith. He then accepted the Bayer Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) with Professor Kris Matyjaszewski. In 1999, he began his independent research career at Clarkson University in northern New York State where he is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Science. His research group focusses on new polymer chemistries, particularly radical polymerizations, nanocomposites, and degradable polymers for bio-related applications. He is an Associate Editor of the Australian Journal of Chemistry, and was a Fulbright Scholar in Slovenia in 2015, hosted by the Slovenian National Institute of Chemistry and the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at the University of Ljubljana.
