Marine and Freshwater Research

Volume 76 Number 15 2025

Coastal freshwater wetlands and their inhabitants face pressures with increases in salt amount from human-related causes, affecting life and essential ecosystem processes. This study examined the relationship among salinity, leaf decomposition and freshwater isopods. We exposed tanks of isopods and leaves to varying salinities. We found that increases in salinity increased isopod mortality but did not influence decomposition.

Morphometric analysis aids species, population, and stock differentiation. Two teleost species, B. boops and N. randalli, from Antalya Bay, Türkiye, were sampled to determine otolith–fish size relationships. Strong correlations showed that regional factors drive species-specific formulas. Year-round sampling and pollution monitoring are crucial in this high-traffic zone.
