Graphical Abstract Image

The interactions between four cryoprotectants and monolayers of four phospholipids were investigated. Significant differences are observed as functions of cryoprotectant, lipid species and physical state of the monolayer, highlighting that results based on a single model system are insufficient to understand the mechanisms of action of cryoprotectants.

Graphical Abstract Image

Charge-transfer (CT) complexes formed between Ar-S-TTFs and TCNQF4 are investigated. It is found that the complexes show different degrees of charge transfer and the stacking structures of the CT complexes can be manipulated by varying the symmetry and size of the aryl groups on the Ar-S-TTF.

CH21228Nucleophilic ability of 5-aminopyrazoles in the multicomponent synthesis of pyrazolodihydropyridines and pyrazolodihydropyrimidines

Mahdi Ahmadi Varzaneh, Hamid R. Memarian 0000-0003-1427-5825, Hadi Amiri Rudbari and Olivier Blacque 0000-0001-9857-4042
pp. 181-196
Graphical Abstract Image

The nucleophilic ability of substituted 5-aminopyrazoles and the type of acyclic and cyclic dicarbonyl component were investigated in the cyclocondensation reaction to synthesise various pyrazolodihydropyridines and pyrazolodihydropyrimidines. The type of the substituent in the 5-aminopyrazole molecule affects the regiochemistry of addition.

Graphical Abstract Image

Nitrogen-doped modified activated carbons (NACs) were prepared from coconut shell, date shell, and almond shell using the urea modification method. NO tests of NH3 selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) were conducted to evaluate the efficiency of different types of nitrogen-doped modified AC as denitration catalyst carriers at 50–220°C. NACs denitrification activity tests were carried out in a fixed-bed reactor with an inner diameter of 15 mm and a total gas flow rate of 500 mL·min−1 flue gas.

CH21201Using new solvatochromic parameters to investigate dye–solvent interactions

pp. 206-219
Graphical Abstract Image

Solvatochromic behaviour of triazine substituted dyes was evaluated mathematically based on red shift index (RsI) and solvation energy (ASE). This study demonstrates that substituent changes and solvent nature induce spectral changes. These phase changes were characterised by evaluating the wavelength of the absorption and emission spectra in different solvents. This concept can be used for any type of dye that displays solvatochromic behaviours in a wide range of solvents.

Graphical Abstract Image

The kinetics of liquid drop evaporation from glass surfaces was evaluated. Differential evaporation rates were compared between Au coated and bare glass surfaces. The contact angle was used to quantify the diameter of the water drop as a measure of evaporation rate. Potential applications in the control of silica-microwires have been discussed.

CH21256Synthesis, crystal structure and characterisation of the complex {Ln(DHTA)1.5(H2O)3]·H2O}n (Ln = La, Ce, Nd)

pp. 231-239
Graphical Abstract Image

Three new complexes based on 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid (H2DHTA), namely, {[Ln(DHTA)1.5(H2O)3]·H2O}n (Ln = La 1, Ce 2, Nd 3), have been successfully synthesised under hydrothermal conditions. Structural analysis revealed that 13 are isostructural and all display a one-dimensional structure along the a axis and a two-dimensional network along the b axis, which was stabilised by O–H⋯O hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions.
