Graphical Abstract Image

Amino-functional ionic liquids were developed as catalysts for CO2 to form cyclic carbonates. The catalysts could be reused at least eight times without noticeable loss of activity. Reaction kinetic studies were undertaken, the rate constants were determined for reaction temperatures of 100–130°C and the activation energy was 45.9 kJ mol−1.

CH18066A Novel Composite Phase-Change Material: CaCl2·6H2O+MgCl2·6H2O+NH4Cl

Ouyang Dong, Zhihong Zhang, Zhenhai Fu and Xiang Li
pp. 416-421
Graphical Abstract Image

A new phase-change material is reported here: (90 wt- % CaCl2·6H2O + 6.25 wt- % MgCl2·6H2O + 3.75 wt- % NH4Cl with 2 wt- % SrCl2·6H2O and 2 wt- % carboxymethyl cellulose), the undercooling degree is less than 1.5°C, and the phase-change temperature and latent heat are 25.3°C and 144.3 J g−1, respectively.

CH17540Liquid-Crystalline Properties of Thioesters

Anne Ugleholdt Petersen, Martyn Jevric, Richard J. Mandle, Martin Drøhse Kilde, Frederik P. Jørgensen, John W. Goodby and Mogens Brøndsted Nielsen
pp. 422-434
Graphical Abstract Image

A selection of biphenyls and diphenylbuta-1,3-diynes with cyano and thioester functionalities was prepared and investigated for their liquid-crystalline properties. Synthetically, the thioester functionality was conveniently introduced by treating the aryl tert-butylthioether precursor with a long-chain acid chloride in the presence of bismuth(iii) triflate.

A novel and one-pot pseudo-four-component reaction between a series of arylglyoxals, malononitrile, 3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-amine, and acetone in the presence of TPAB has been developed to synthesize a series of new substituted pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridines, using water as an environmentally friendly solvent, in high to excellent yields.

CH18076Carbonized Waste Cotton/Stearic Acid Composites for Photo-Thermal Conversion and Heat Storage

Haifeng Li, Nian Li, Cheng Zhang, Tingting Zhao, Lidong Sun, Mengya Shang, Cui Liu, Yongqiang Zhou, Shudong Zhang and Zhenyang Wang
pp. 442-448
Graphical Abstract Image

Carbonised waste cotton/stearic acid composites with carbonised waste cotton as a photo-thermal conversion agent and stearic acid as a phase change heat storage unit have been prepared for simultaneous photo-thermal conversion and heat storage.

Graphical Abstract Image

Post-polymerization modification of ADMET polyketone was conducted in a sequential manner via oxime chemistry and electrophilic alkoxyetherification. Complete conversion of the reactive site was realized in both steps, and the two modification reactions showed good compatibility. This sequential modification approach enables the generation of a diverse range of functional polyolefins.

CH18146Hydrogen-Bonded Frameworks of Mercury(II) Complexes with Pyridinedicarboxylic Acids

Željka Soldin, Boris-Marko Kukovec, Dubravka Matković-Čalogović and Zora Popović
pp. 455-462
Graphical Abstract Image

Novel mercury(ii) coordination compounds [HgCl(2,4-pydcH2)(2,4-pydcH)]·2H2O (1) and [HgCl(2,6-pydcH)(H2O)]·3H2O (2), which exhibit hydrogen-bonded 3D frameworks, and [Hg(2,6-pydcH)2]·2H2O (3), exhibiting only hydrogen-bonded 1D chains, were prepared. The hydrogen-bonded 1D chain of 3 was prepared by mechanochemical synthesis, as well as by conventional solution synthesis.

Graphical Abstract Image

The copper(i)-catalyzed click reactions have been utilized to synthesize a series of scaffold aminodendrons, which successfully underwent azodimerization to construct a series of pyridyl- and phenyl-based azodendrimers loaded with peripheral alkyl or ether side chains. The molecular self-assembly of the new azodendrimers was investigated and the results showed uniform self-assembly to nanofibrous material for one composite.
